Traditionally, getting a dental crown required two separate appointments — one to prepare the tooth and place a temporary crown, and a second visit one to two weeks later to bond the permanent restoration. With CEREC CAD/CAM technology, we can now design, mill, and bond a permanent all-ceramic crown in a single appointment. No temporary crown. No second visit. No waiting.
What Is CEREC?
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It is a complete digital workflow system that combines an intraoral scanner, 3D design software, and an in-office milling unit. The result is a fully customised, permanent ceramic crown crafted while you wait in the chair.
How the CEREC Process Works
1. Digital Scan
After the tooth is prepared under local anaesthetic, our intraoral scanner captures a precise 3D digital impression of the prepared tooth, the surrounding teeth, and your bite. This replaces the traditional impression tray entirely.
2. CAD Design
Dr. Cem uses the CEREC design software to create a 3D model of your new crown. The software suggests an initial design based on the surrounding teeth and bite data — Dr. Cem refines this manually to achieve perfect aesthetics and function. You can see the design on screen before milling begins.
3. CAM Milling
The completed design is sent wirelessly to our in-office CEREC milling unit. The crown is milled from a single block of high-quality dental ceramic — the same material used in traditional lab-made crowns. Milling takes approximately 15–20 minutes.
4. Glazing and Staining
Once milled, the crown is characterised with stains and glazes to match the exact shade and translucency of your natural teeth. It is then fired in a small oven to achieve its final hardness and polish.
5. Bonding
The crown is tried in, bite is checked, and any minor adjustments are made. It is then permanently bonded to the prepared tooth — leaving you with a fully restored smile in a single appointment.
Who Is CEREC Right For?
CEREC is ideal for patients who:
- Need one or more crowns on back or front teeth
- Are travelling from abroad and cannot return for a second appointment
- Want to avoid wearing temporary crowns
- Value their time and prefer a streamlined treatment experience
For our international dental tourism patients in particular, CEREC is transformative — complex crown work that would normally require two separate trips can be completed entirely within a single visit to Kosovo.
CEREC Ceramic vs. Traditional Crowns
CEREC crowns are milled from the same lithium disilicate and zirconia ceramics used in traditional lab-made crowns. Strength, longevity, and aesthetics are comparable. The key difference is speed and convenience — without any compromise in quality.
