Traditional Film vs. Digital X-Ray

Traditional dental X-rays use photographic film that must be chemically developed — a process that takes time, produces chemical waste, and delivers a relatively low-resolution image. Digital X-rays use an electronic sensor instead. The image appears on a monitor within seconds, can be magnified and enhanced instantly, and requires far less radiation to produce a clearer result.

How Much Safer Is Digital Radiography?

Digital X-rays use approximately 80–90% less radiation than film-based X-rays. To put it in context: a full set of digital dental X-rays exposes you to less radiation than a short flight from London to Pristina. With standard lead aprons and thyroid collars, the exposure is considered negligible by international dental safety guidelines.

For patients who are concerned about radiation — particularly children or those who require frequent imaging — digital radiography makes dental X-rays dramatically safer.

CBCT: 3D Imaging for Implants and Surgery

For implant cases and complex surgical planning, we use Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) — a 3D X-ray that captures a complete volumetric image of your jaw, teeth, nerves, and bone in a single scan. This allows Dr. Cem to plan implant placement with millimetre-level accuracy before any surgery begins, using the data to design a digital surgical guide.

Image Enhancement for Better Diagnosis

One of the major advantages of digital X-rays is the ability to enhance images instantly. We can adjust brightness, contrast, and zoom to highlight specific areas of concern — making it easier to explain findings to patients and ensuring no detail is missed. Digital files are stored permanently in your patient record, allowing direct comparison with previous X-rays at every visit.
